Air admittance valves can be used to vent branch and stack plumbing system drain in a home or building. The purpose of an air admittance valve is (1) to provide a method of allowing air to enter a plumbing system as an alternative to a vent extended outside a building to outside air (2) to prevent plumbing system sewer gases from entering inside a building and (3) to protect against siphonage of a plumbing fixture trap.
